Costa Rica Favorable for Online Gambling
Costa Rica has become a hot bed for sport
betting and it is only going to continue to grow. Just on Monday night with the
NCAA basketball championship game the online gambling site, BetonSports.com
received over one hundred thousand wagers on just that one game. And
BetonSports.com is not the only online gambling site that is reaping the huge
benefit of holding up camp in the new found little capital of online gambling.
There are currently two hundred online gambling
companies who have all set up shop in Costa Rica, and for good reason given the
fact that non of them have to pay taxes on the money that they make from
customer from out side of the small country itself. And with this loop hole in
full view there are some who insist that the industry is skirting being illegal
by accepting business from the United States. BetonSports CEO, David
Carruthers, certainly doesn't see it that way, "If I was doing this in the
United States, it would be illegal. But I'm not. I'm doing it here in Costa
Rica."
Despite the United States' unsteady stance on
the online gambling industry there are plenty people with in its borders who
don't seem to have a problem with it, given that the site received sixty
thousand calls to place bets on any given NFL Sunday. With such
intense flow of cash, even the CEO of BetonSports.com want to be regulated and
pay taxes. He sees the inevitability of people gambling online but also sees the
dangers of a completely unregulated system,
"If you ban online gaming, all you're going to do is drive this activity into
the hands of undesirables."
