The first of the states has made the bold move
to make online gambling an official crime with in its borders. Washington state
just declared that after June seventh of this year all online gambling activity
will be considered a federal crime. What the State's Legislature has done is
update the law already in place to include any transaction that take places via
the internet as well.
Many people feel that they have been blindsided
by the rushed decision in their state's legislature, and were never given
warning as to the fact that even such a law was even being considered and voted
upon. Some say that the change is just a way for right wing conservatives to
give the appearance of throwing their weight around and that when it comes to
actual enforcement there will be essentially no change in the way things are
handled.
The only hint of activity on this subject when
people research the papers in the area only pointed to the almost constant tug
of war going on the the US congress dealing with online gambling, nothing hinted
to Washington's change. If for some reason that someone is caught gambling
online, they would be subject to a $10,000 fine and up to five years in prison.
This is particularly harsh for simply waging one's own money in the privacy of
one's own home.
